Since 2016, Hitachi High-Tech has participated in hands-on science lessons organized by Tohoku University Science Campus. On October 5, 2024, it held its 9th electron microscope observation event.

This year’s event was once again held in a hybrid format, connecting Tohoku University’s satellite venue, online participants, and a tabletop electron microscope set up at Hitachi High-Tech’s head office. Ten students, with their parents observing, remotely examined samples using an electron microscope.
In line with the event’s theme of earthquake recovery in the Tohoku region, it focused on providing "experiences of manufacturing and active, hands-on engagement and thinking," allowing participants to observe various samples as well.
Students who participated in the event commented, “I couldn’t tell any difference by looking at the samples, so I was amazed to see how completely different they looked under the electron microscope.” Parents also gave feedback like, “It’s amazing that the SEM can be operated remotely—just what I’d expect from Hitachi!”

Hitachi High-Tech will continue to provide children with opportunities to experience science and technology as part of our ongoing efforts to support the recovery of manufacturing in the Tohoku region.
